Project 1 - Publishing Forms

“Once the book becomes electronic or hybrid, the permanence, immutability and stability typical of physical books is likely to mutate into dynamic, modular, and participative forms."

– Digital Publishing Toolkit Collective, From Print to Ebooks: A Hybrid Publishing Toolkit for the Arts, 2014

This project reimagines the book as a spatial, atmospheric experience through augmented reality.
Inspired by the essay “Have We Finally Become Ghosts in the Machine?” by Brad Evans & Chantal Meza,
the work explores themes of technological disappearance, digital fragmentation, and poetic subjectivity.

Instead of reading linearly, the viewer moves through layers — text becomes suspended, fragmented, or hidden in space. AR is used not to decorate, but to evoke: emptiness, tension, surveillance, or distance. The project invites the reader not only to look at a book, but to move with it, scan through it, and sense the invisible.

It is a hybrid form of publishing — between screen and paper, presence and absence — where the act of reading becomes a quiet confrontation with the self in a digital landscape.

A printed book enhanced with AR experiences that can be accessed using a smartphone or tablet, allowing the viewer to engage with animated visuals, sound, and digital interactions layered over physical pages.

These sketchbook documents are the full creative journey of my AR publication project — from conceptual research and early spatial sketches to technical testing and visual development. It reflects my thinking process, key inspirations, and design decisions that shaped the final outcome. The pages explore how atmosphere, interaction, and abstraction work together to transform a traditional book into an immersive, digital experience.

The Sketchbook has been divided into 2 parts.
Sketchbook 1 is Research part and sketchbook 2 is Experimentation & Development part.
